Cameron Rawley had been with a friend at the Jade Garden chip shop on Roundthorn Road, Glodwick, when he was set upon by a group of six teenagers just after 5pm on Saturday.
They demanded his Blackberry but when he refused, one of the lads punched him on the nose and threw his food over him.
The thugs are described as Asian and aged between 13 and 17. One had a Mohican-style haircut.
